About the Framing Jen is certified as a custom framer through a nationally recognized program. She sees the art process as a series of stages for her pieces, from the sketches all the way to the framed finished product. She takes great care that each watercolor is framed in such a way that is neutral enough in order to be hung in many different environments, and yet takes into account the personality of each piece, and tastefully highlights the individual characteristics. Because Jen does not stretch her watercolor paper prior to painting, she leaves a beautiful deckled edge of the paper exposed. This is a natural feature of watercolor paper, adding to the aesthetic quality of the artwork. In order to preserve this, She mounts each painting in a shadowbox mount constructed of suede matboard, in a color chosen to compliment the piece. In this way, the painting does not touch the glass, and appears to be "floating" in a space between the backing and the glass. Jen is also very careful what materials go into the framing process. The matboard is acid free and lignine free, buffered to maintain alkaline pH. The glass used is known as Tru Vue conservation glass, which blocks a minimum of 98% of harmful UV light rays. Even the tapes used in the construction of the shadowbox are completely archival, and will not harm the matboard or artwork in any way. The paintings are framed with the intent of being sold framed. If the buyer is interested in the piece un-framed, the cost will remain the same for the artwork. She is comfortable shipping framed pieces, and can simply add the cost of shipping to the selling price of the piece. copyright 2006 updated 3/05 |
